PD Points

Number of PD (Professional Development) Points for Each Level

For NCCP coaches, they require a certain amount of PD Points to maintain their certification. Below are the numbers of PD points needed to maintain each certification:

How to Obtain PD Points

Below is a list of ways to acquire PD points:

  • NCCP Clinics
  • Multi-Sport Modules with Provincial/Territorial Coaching Representative
  • Active Coaching
  • Self-Reporting

The number of PD Points obtained can vary depending on the training. In general:

  • NCCP Training = 5 points
  • Non-NCCP Events = 1 point/hour (up to 3 points)
  • Active coaching = 1 point/year

  1. Go to gameplanbasketball.ca
  2. Sign in with your login credentials
  3. Click the “Tools” tab and then the “Documents” button at the bottom of the drop down menu
  4. Under the “General” section, you can click “How to Earn PD Points”

 

How to see how many PD Points you have

Coaches are able to check the number of PD Points they’ve earned at thelocker.coach.ca. Once on this website, you can follow these steps to confirm your number.

  1. Sign in with your login credentials
  2. Click your name at the top right corner
  3. Click the “Certification” tab near the top of the screen
  4. Click the “Maintenance” tab on the left side
  5. This page will show:
  • Your certification(s)
  • How many points you have
  • How many points you need to maintain your certification
  • The date the renewal cycle concludes

 

Renewal Cycles for PD Points

Once coaches receive their certified status, they will have four years to earn the required PD points to maintain their certification. This process repeats itself at the end of every fourth year.

Maintenance of certification is essential to:

  • Ensuring coaches stay current with  new coaching practices and knowledge;
  • Maintaining the integrity of the NCCP;
  • Maintaining consistency with the standards of other professions;
  • Reinforcing the values of lifelong learning and continuous improvement.
